CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CUSTODY AND SUPERVISION OF
INMATES IN A STATE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY. CRIMINAL JUSTICE
CERTIFICATION REQUIRED. APPLICANTS MUST PASS ACADEMIC, SITUATIONAL
JUDGMENT & PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING. THE AGENCY IS IMPLEMENTING A PHYSICAL

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE WITH INMATES, STAFF MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL
PUBLIC. PERFORM SEARCH OF PERSONS, PLACES, AND OBJECTS. WORK ROTATING
FIXED OR SPLIT SHIFTS, WEEKENDS & HOLIDAYS. RESPOND AT ANY TIME TO
EMERGENCY CALLS. CONDUCT CONTINUOUS VISUAL & AUDIO SURVEILLANCE OF
INMATES, BOTH INDOOR & OUTDOOR. TRANSPORT INMATES ON APPROVED DEPART-
MENTAL VEHICLES AT ANY TIME, DAY OR NIGHT, IN ANY WEATHER, TRAFFIC, &
ROAD CONDITIONS. PERFORM RESCUE FUNCTIONS TO INCLUDE CPR, BASIC FIRST
AID, PHYSICALLY REMOVING PEOPLE FROM DANGEROUS AREAS AND USING FIRE
FIGHTING EQUIPMENT TO INCLUDE FIRE HOSES, EXTINGUISHERS & BREATHING
APPARATUS. ESTABLISH & MAINTAIN CONTROL OF VIOLENT OR UNCOOPERATIVE
INMATES. DEFEND ONESELF OR OTHERS AGAINST VIOLENT ATTACK. WORK ASSIGNED
POST WHICH INCLUDE EXTENDED STANDING, WALKING, CLIMBING STAIRS &
EXPOSURE TO ELEMENTS. APPREHEND ESCAPED/FLEEING INMATES TO INCLUDE
RUNNING, JUMPING, CLIMBING, CRAWLING USING REASONABLE PHYSICAL FORCE TO
INCLUDE DEADLY FORCE. LOAD, UNLOAD, AIM & FIRE HANDGUNS, SHOTGUNS, &
RIFLES AT THE LEVEL OF PROFICIENCY REQUIRED. CONDUCT ACCURATE COUNT OF
PERSONS AND DISTINGUISH BETWEEN COLOR CODED EMERGENCY SIGNALS, KEYS,
SAFETY SIGNS, AND CLOTHING. COMPREHEND & ABIDE BY POLICIES/DIRECTIVES.
Training and Experience Requirements
GRADUATION FROM HIGH SCHOOL OR EQUIVALENT. MUST BE ELIGIBLE FOR
CRIMINAL JUSTICE CERTIFICATION. INDIVIDUALS WITH TWO YEAR OR FOUR YEAR
DEGREE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.

WITH THEIR PD-107 APPLICATION.**
